The Benhar Balance

The Bible clearly teaches balance.

We have a Great Commitment to the Great Commandment & the Great Commision to grow a Great Church!  

This summarizes everything we aim to do here at Benhar in one sentence. 

It's taken from two main passages of Scripture: Matthew 22:36-40, The great Commandment: 

Jesus said, "Thou shalt love the Lord Thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. on these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" 

Then from the Great Commission (Matthew 28: 19-20) we get these things:

Jesus said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the Name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you".

From The Great Commandment we take:

Loving God With All Your Heart.  That's worship. 

Also Loving Your Neighbour As Yourself -- that's ministry. 

From the Great Commission we take:

Go And Make Disciples -- evangelism;

Baptize -- incorporate into fellowship;

Teach Them All Things -- discipleship.

So we exist for these five reasons. We believe God has given us the Great Commandment and the Great Commision - not the Great Suggestion! 

 

A final note:

We have The Bible as our final authority and all other resources are used only in reference to what God's Word teaches.

We believe our balance has to be expressed simply to avoid confusion:

Seeking God's approval --------------------------Man's approval 

Goal : make disciples ------------------------------New members

Appeal to spiritual needs --------------------Appeal to felt needs 

Seeking holiness & truth ------------------Seeking unity of faiths 

Building up in the Lord -----------------------Building self esteem
